This Weakness Being Mine began as many band stories do: with a boy and his guitar.
Well, not exactly a boy, but a man, and there was definitely a guitar. Having recently
moved to the Charlotte, NC area, Robert Morrison was in search of a new way to put
his music out into the world. On a random whim, This Weakness Being Mine was
born, soon after seeing the release of its first album, an acoustic driven EP recorded
in Morrison’s Fort Mill, SC bedroom called More Than Sound.

It wasn’t long, though, until Morrison felt the need to expand the line up. Enter Will
Tilson, a guitarist-turned-drummer, and Andy Jessopp on bass. That particular
manifestation of TWBM was formed around the recording of the band’s first full-
length album, the indie rock, pop friendly A Chance For Heroes, which was released
in October of 2010. Soon after, lead guitarist John Da Costa was added to the fold,
but the departure of Jessopp in the summer of 2011 left the band in flux.

Still they pressed on, beginning work on its second album, a sprawling work called
Separation Anxiety, the band’s heaviest and most accomplished collection to date.
More than that, though, the album is truly that: an album, forming around the theme
that the title suggests, as Morrison, still the band’s main songwriter and lyricist,
allowed the reality of his life to weave into the themes of isolation, solitude and,
ultimately, redemption.

Early 2012 has already proven to be a strong year for the band. With the addition
of new bassist Dan Sullivan, the live sound is back to full strength, and a successful
launch party for Separation Anxiety at Tremont Music Hall in Charlotte allowed the
band to show its formative live show chops.

The music, however, continues to be the catalyst for everything. Morrison strives
to create lyrical space that can be understood by any listener, and that connects
with anyone who hears them. The sonic space also continues to expand, as the band
strengthens the quality of its home studio and knowledge of what the TWBM sound
really is. Guitar driven and atmospheric, the sound is beginning to solidify itself in
the sonic space similar to bands such as Thrice, Anberlin, The Class Crime, Jimmy
Eat World, The Myriad and others like these.

This Weakness Being Mine strives, above all else, to have its music connect with
everyone who hears it, and for those who love music to be able to find a new
favorite local band in Charlotte. Please check them out online at facebook.com/
